The Average Age of a Credit Union Member is 47 Years Old!

Unfortunately, credit unions across the US are getting older and older in terms of the average age of their membership. Here at SLCU we realize that and have re-shifted our focus to getting younger and generating that “Long Term Relationship”. Honestly, nothing is better than hearing a member tell you that they have been with your credit union since 1967, because their parents opened their account when they were babies. Here at Southern Lakes we want to hear more stories like that.
Over the past couple of years SLCU has taken drastic steps to get younger such as:
• Opening a branch located inside of Tremper High School (Kenosha, WI).
• Providing several links on our website that assist parents and children with the importance of Financial Management, Saving for Future Goals and the importance of Maintaining a Good Credit Rating.
• Providing Educational Seminars at Grade Schools, High Schools & Colleges.
• First Time Auto Loan Discounts
• Young Member Info Centers at each of our 4 branch locations.
Next, Southern Lakes has also developed many products and programs designed for our younger demographic that even have their parents excited. Here at SLCU we view it as a win-win situation because we are potentially gaining a lifetime member as well as their parents.
These are some of the exciting products and promotions that are currently taking place at Southern Lakes Credit Union:
Johnny Appleseed Savings (up to age 12): Savings accounts for the younger children to help them begin saving at a young age. SLCU deposits the first $5 into their new account.
“MY CHECKING”
Teen Checking Accounts (for ages 15, 16 & 17 yrs. old)
No minimum balance, no per check fee, free debit cards and 24/7 online access to their accounts. This account is a great way to help a student learn how to balance a check book before going off to college or moving out on their own. SLCU will deposit the first $5 into their new account.
“MY CD”
12 month — Add on Certificate (Great for all ages)
This is a great way to start saving for college and the member can add to their account and watch their investment grow. The MY CD only requires a $100 minimum deposit to open. Finally, SLCU will deposit the first $5 into their new account.
“Rewards For Good Grades”
(Through grade 12—limit 4 per school year)
$5 deposited into their savings account for receiving a minimum GPA of 3.0 or equivalent.
